Having not seen Crazy for you for many years I was really looking forward to this production. With so many fantastic well known Gershwin musical numbers the audience were in for a treat.

Stuart McDiarmid played the engaging Bobby Child who unintentionally falls hopelessly in love with Polly Baker played by Chloe’ Turner. I really enjoyed seeing how their on-stage relationship developed. Both Stuart and Chloe’s performances were exceptional throughout, special mention for my three favourites ‘Someone to watch over me‘, ‘They can’t take that away from me’ and ‘Embraceable You ‘

Larger than life Bela Zangler was played well by Lewis Doley. I particularly liked the mirror scene with Bobby ‘What Causes That’ the movements must have taken many hours to get to that exacting level of detail.

Siobhan Ganley played Bobbys thwarted fiancé Irene Rothwho gave an entertaining rendition of ‘Naughty Baby ‘in herattempt to woo Lank Hawkins played by Liam McNally.

I absolutely loved the characterisations of eccentric Tour Guide writers Eugene and Patricia Fodor played by Kris Evans and Rachel Fox.

Without mentioning everyone by name the large cast all played their supporting roles well with many recognisable characters throughout the energetic chorus numbers.

One of the many hi-lights of the show for me had to be the Zangler Follies girls, Claire Brough, Sophie Wood, Lily Moore, Helen Gauntlett, Rachel Heffer, Sarah Sheppard, Emily Yau and Verity Wadesmith all were brilliant throughout especially the wonderful harmonies in ‘Nice Work If You Can Get It ‘they were absolutely stunning.

The well-rehearsed cast had been put through their paces by Sadie who has the ability to make each productions choreography very different and this shone throughout the chorus numbers.Under the experienced musical direction of Chris the orchestra did not overpower the cast as can sometimes be the case. And Director John ultimately ensured there was good use of the stage and the whole production was of a very high standard.

On the night I attended there were some minor issues with a scenery revolve however the backstage crew dealt with this swiftly and I’d like to add the scene continued without visibly phasing the cast, well done.

Finally I’d like to mention the absolutely fabulous show girl costumes, including large impressive feather fans the girls used to great effect.

Congratulations BMTC on a very enjoyable professional production.
