About Joining

For performing members a brief audition will be required so we may “see what you are capable of”. It is nothing to worry about, it is just our way to assess where you would best fit in the society. After all, if you join you will be performing to audiences in theatres such as The Crescent.

We place members in singing voices, Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone and Bass. If you don’t know where you fit into the above – don’t worry, we will help you!

Can you dance? Presently we have dancers who both sing and dance and have joined us from a number of dance schools and have featured in many of our major productions.

We also look for non-acting members. Non-acting members work with us at our Musical Express productions in the Autumn and our main production in the Spring at the Crescent Theatre, Sheepcote Street, Birmingham.

Non-acting member’s involvement is not every week, it is mainly required during the lead up to a show and of course during it. We are looking for regular members for:

Back stage

We require back stage staff who can work with the stage manager in moving parts of the sets during scene changes, or carrying on and off large props.

Front of house

For front or house staff we require people who are able to “meet and greet” our audience as they arrive, as well as promoting and selling the programmes and raffle tickets for that evenings production.

Publicity

For example help with distribution of flyers, posters, promotional material within the local community.

We can assure you of a warm welcome and a great atmosphere during and after the shows. Many have said there is nothing like the buzz of a show week!

During the week of the show, after the performances, we arrange social nights out for the cast and crew. All are welcome.

The cast know and appreciate the hard work these people give. The audience may or may not know how important their roles are as they are rarely seen! They are as important as the cast on stage in making a success of our productions, so why not join us?

How to join

Bournville Musical Theatre Company (BMTC) rehearses every Thursday night from 7.30pm to 10.00pm. Approximately 4 weeks before a performance, extra rehearsals are held on Tuesdays and some Sundays.

We rehearse at:

The Friends Meeting House
Watford Road
Cotteridge
Birmingham
B30 1JB

The entrance is alongside the West Bromwich Building Society and is located at the top of the driveway.

We perform two shows a year. Our main production is normally one week during April and our concerts are usually in September or October.

If you are interested in joining BMTC please complete the form linked below, ensuring you fill out the section showing which areas you are interested in (i.e. back stage, front of house, on stage, etc). This enables us to assess if there is a suitable position available for you.

As we are such a popular company, we often find ourselves in the position of being fully subscribed with our on stage membership. We keep a waiting list for people who want to join us, but who applied at a time when no suitable vacancies were available. Once a place becomes available, people from the top of the waiting list are contacted and invited to audition.
