“Bournville Musical Theatre Company wins Show of the Year for FOLLIES”

In April 2008 at Sutton Town Hall members from the BMTC attended the annual NODA Midlands awards dinner where the BMTC were short listed for Midlands Show of the Year for their production of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies.

Jane Lodwig, who played Phyllis Stone, attended along with Lisa Smith who played Sally Durant and Syd James and Phil Snowe. It was an excellent evening that showed cased the tremendous talent and productions staged in the Midlands area over the past year.

The awards evening literally followed the last night of the BMTC’s successful week performing Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at the Crescent theatre, “ what a great way end show week” said Phil “ it’s nice to hear that the other societies attending the evening had been and enjoyed our production of Seven Brides” said Syd.

Jane Lodwig, chairperson commented “it’s a wonderful accolade for the BMTC to be even nominated, yet alone be on the final shortlist, the society tackled an extremely challenging production and work so hard to produce this fabulous show”

" Follies taxed many aspects of staging the show from Sondheim’s music to interacting with the ghosts of the characters former selves along with the emotional ups and downs of this wonderful plot” said Lisa Smith “ we all enjoyed rehearsals”

After the nominees we invited to the stage the result was read out and the BMTC was awarded show the year.
